Multi dog households 🐶🦊🐶
I frickin love my pack! So much! I love how they bring joy to my life, companionship, and how they make me a better handler and trainer, in so many different ways. Their personalities, what they excel in, and what they find difficult is so different. They ensure that I keep learning and bettering myself.
However, having three dogs is HARD. Having one dog can be difficult, depending on the individual dog. But add another and then another. Things can get tricky.
I urge you, if you have 1 dog or are planning on welcoming one dog and then multiple, please ensure that the original dog is at a high standard before you welcome a second, third etc.
Do not buy/rescue another dog if there are issues with your existing dog. I learned this the hard way. It is doable for you to do this and be happy and fulfill your dogs as a pack and individually, but I am able to dedicate a lot of time and energy to my pack; due to the nature of my job. I have been able to put a lot of time into undoing mistakes. There aren't many jobs that make this feasible. So please be sensible.
There is absolutely no shame in capping yourself to 1 dog. Absolutely no shame at all. Whatever you do, be realistic on breed, size, cost (financial and time), energy level, etc.
The dog you may want might not be the right match for you. Don't just base what you want on looks or a dog that is thriving with a trainer.
